Visit California Releases Ultimate Guide to Dream Drives and Sustainability on the Road

Free, all-new guide features interactive Spotify playlists to go along with each journey

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (July 15, 2022) -- The 2022 California Road Trips guide, showcasing sustainable travel in the Golden State and eight dream drives, is now available to order on Visit California’s website. The 60-page publication is divided into these two distinct sections, designed to provide readers with the perfect balance of information and inspiration for planning their next adventure.

“Visit California is committed to educating visitors on how they can help preserve the state’s natural beauty and respect local communities while they travel throughout California’s diverse regions,” said Visit California President and CEO Caroline Beteta. “This year’s guide provides tips and resources that will help visitors embark on more sustainable road trips, while offering a wealth of ideas to inspire their next dream drive through the California Road Trip Republic.”

The publication opens with a Guide to Sustainable Road Trips and Responsible Travel, offering readers everything they need to know about exploring the state in an eco-friendly fashion.

It includes:

  • How to Plan an Eco-Friendly Trip: A tip-filled story about how visitors can incorporate environmentally friendly practices into a road trip, such as driving an electric vehicle and using the state’s abundance of EV chargers

  • Tips for Timing Your Trip: Championing off-peak travel, and including suggestions for what visitors should pack on their next Golden State adventure

  • Regenerative Travel 101: An introduction leaving destinations better than they were found

Readers looking to visit eco-conscious communities should pay close attention to a feature on 11 Deserving Destinations, highlighting places that have made a serious commitment to green practices.

The guide’s 8 Dream Drives provide detailed itineraries for exploring the most dynamic corners of California. Each trip comes with a custom Spotify playlist that complements the history, terrain and vibe of each region.

A few highlights:

  • Wine to Waves, which takes readers through four wine regions connected by Highway 128 – Yolo, Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino counties

  • SoCal Splurge, spending three to five days trekking from Laguna Beach to Santa Barbara, filled with epic views, great meals and plenty of retail therapy

  • Geek’s Guide to California, a 922-mile trip that showcases locations used in science-fiction classics as well as the new Comic-Con Museum in San Diego

  • Autism-Friendly California Adventure, which celebrates destinations and attractions that make a special effort to welcome guests on the spectrum

The 1 million-circulation 2022 California Road Trips guide is available for free at California Welcome Centers and online at VisitCalifornia.com/travel-guides beginning July 15, 2022. The publication will be included with the August issues of Travel + Leisure, Food & Wine and AllRecipes magazines.
